Choose a cannabis dispensing establishment by checking its permission, prescription process and product records before considering convenience or reviews. A polished interior and a knowledgeable salesperson do not, by themselves, establish legal compliance or medical suitability.

Check the actual establishment
Look for the licence holder, licensed premises, permitted activity and expiry. Compare these with the branch you plan to visit. A brand may operate several locations, but a document for one address does not automatically establish the status of another.

Ask how prescriptions are verified
Contact the establishment before travelling. Ask which identification and prescription format it needs, how it verifies the issuer and what happens if a document is incomplete. A payment receipt, membership card or pending consultation is not the same as an approved prescription.

Read a laboratory report carefully

A certificate of analysis is evidence about the tested sample and listed tests. It does not guarantee that every possible contaminant was checked or that a product is safe for every patient. A licence is also not a guarantee of clinical benefit.

Evaluate the advice you receive
Useful staff explanations identify the preparation, instructions, source records and person responsible for clinical questions. Be cautious about promises that a strain cures a condition, that a high price proves purity or that aroma verifies safety.
If the available product differs from what the practitioner intended, ask how that difference should be resolved. Do not let a retail recommendation silently replace the treatment plan. Keep the label and receipt so a later question can be traced to the actual product.
Compare costs and practical access
Ask which charges relate to consultation, medicine and follow-up, and whether they are separate. Confirm opening hours, accessibility and the responsible contact. Reviews can help with those practical details, but an enthusiastic testimonial does not verify a licence or a medical claim.
Our earlier guide promoted online ordering and delivery as general advantages. That was too broad for controlled flower: a convenient website does not establish a permitted sales method. Check the applicable sales restrictions in DTAM's FAQ rather than assuming that a prescription authorises any transaction channel.
A short checklist before a visit
- The branch and relevant licence details are identifiable.
- The establishment can explain its prescription-verification process.
- Product records can be matched to the dispensed batch.
- Clinical questions have an identified professional contact.
- Fees and follow-up arrangements are clear.
- Any uncertainty about a document or sales method has been resolved.
You can use the dispensary directory to find establishments to investigate. A directory entry is a starting point for these checks, not certification of the business or a treatment recommendation.
